Downtimes July 30 (Sat) and August 6 (Sat) 2016 for Testing D2L Failover
We plan to perform the annual test of our D2L Failover environment again this summer by switching from active use of D2L Production to active use of D2L Failover. This will require two downtimes: one to make the initial switch to D2L Failover, and another to switch back to D2L Production.
The only impact on users will be two required downtimes:
- Saturday, July 30 from 5AM-9AM for the switch from Production to Failover
- Saturday, Aug 6 from 5AM-9AM for the switch from Failover back to Production
Please take these downtimes into consideration when planning your D2L Brightspace usage this summer. D2L status will be posted at http://status.mnscu.edu/desire2learn/
Note: the downtimes occur on Saturday rather than the typical Sunday maintenance window.
When we are on the Failover environment from July 30 to August 6, users will have access to their D2L Brightspace accounts, courses, content, etc. Failover will look exactly the same as Production to the user. Any changes made or any work performed in D2L Brightspace during this failover period will be retained and will be visible to users after we switch back to Production.
D2L Failover Background Info
The D2L Failover environment is available for emergency or disaster situations (tornado, fire) that could damage our Production environment. The failover environment needs to be tested on occasion, similar to having an annual fire drill. We will go through the process of failing over during a non-emergency situation to make sure we are prepared in the event of an emergency. This failover testing is a necessary part of our commitment to providing resilience and availability of this enterprise learning management system.
